Wrapping Up 2024: SPIDER’s Milestones and Aspirations for 2025

As 2024 comes to a close, we celebrate a remarkable year of progress, partnerships, and innovation. Together, we have taken significant strides in advancing our mission to unleash the power of the BELLA network and bridge the gap between EU-LAC digital dialogue commitments and their practical implementation.

2024 Milestones

1. First Face-to-Face Meeting

This year marked a special moment for our consortium as we gathered for the first time in person, solidifying our shared vision and strengthening our collaborative spirit. Learn more about this meeting.

2. Participation in ENRICH GLOBAL Innovation Days

We joined the 2nd Innovation Days in Rabat, Malta, connecting with global innovators and showcasing SPIDER’s commitment to fostering digital transformation.

3. Launch of the EU-LAC Digital Dialogues Implementation Forum

The launch of the DIF and its Working Groups brought together top experts in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Human-centric digital transformation. These conversations are laying the groundwork for impactful cross-regional collaboration. Read the insights from this launch meeting.

4. Survey on Digital Ecosystem Interconnectivity

Our survey across LAC and Europe revealed insightful data about the state of digital interconnectivity, informing future actions for a more cohesive digital ecosystem. Check out the findings.

5. SPIDER Twinning Programme

6. Joined the Multistakeholder Forum on Cybersecurity and Secure Connectivity

At this D4D Hub event, our Project Coordinator, Yolanda Ursa, highlighted SPIDER’s human-centric approach to digital development, emphasizing inclusivity and solutions that serve communities across Latin America and the Caribbean, and Europe. Check out our LinkedIn post.

7. Participation in the Ibero-America Digital Horizons Dialogue Series

8. Launch of the SPIDER Community of Practice (CoP)

Our CoP is now live, providing a vibrant space for connection, knowledge sharing, and collaborative innovation among digital transformation leaders. Join our Community of Practice.

9. Second Working Group Meeting

We convened for the second time to deepen discussions and align strategies within our Working Groups, driving progress on our goals. Learn more about this meeting.

10. Hosting the 1st Annual Digital Dialogues Implementation Forum

At TICAL2024, we hosted the inaugural DIF, bringing together stakeholders to exchange ideas and explore actionable solutions for bridging digital divides. Learn more about the DIF.

11. Mapping of Digital Dialogues and EU-LAC Agreements

This year, we advanced on the mapping of the dynamic digital transformation landscape between the EU and LAC. By identifying main actors, key themes like AI and 5G, practical applications, and resulting commitments, this work provides a foundation for ongoing analysis and collaboration.Learn more about these digital dialogues.

12. Elaborated a concept note for EU-LAC cooperation on digital
transformation

We advanced a comprehensive concept note that provides a strategic roadmap for leveraging the BELLA network and aligning EU-LAC policies. This document identifies six key technology areas—AI, 5G, blockchain, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and Virtual Research Environments (VREs)—to drive innovation, knowledge exchange, and socio-economic development.
